the soul’s pain
reflected in words
spoken
awkwardly
to the air and
furniture rather
than to your face
spoken
quietly so
only you will
hear and even
then just barely
words
shake out
of my soul like
salt on your soul’s
pain but only to heal
words
as if from
someone else
but aimed straight
from my soul to yours
spoken
though you
don’t want to
hear and though
you’ll only smirk and
ignore these cold
reflections of
our souls’
pain
